Emergency First Aid at Work
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is a practical 1-day qualification designed to give learners the essential skills and confidence to respond to first aid emergencies in the workplace.
Ideal where an employer’s first aid needs assessment identifies Emergency First Aid at Work as the appropriate level of training, the course covers the essential actions needed to provide safe, prompt and effective first aid until further help arrives.
Course Description
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed for people who may be required to provide immediate first aid in the workplace.
It is particularly suited to organisations where the first aid needs assessment identifies EFAW as an appropriate level of cover, including many offices, shops, hospitality venues and other lower-risk working environments.
Learners develop practical skills through hands-on training, realistic scenarios and demonstrations rather than simply sitting through presentations.
Candidates need a suitable level of English (defined as Level 2) to understand course content and complete the required assessments. We can often provide additional support where English is not a learner’s first language, and reasonable adjustments may be available where appropriate. What are the different learning methods for this course?
Face-to-face Learning — Our Fave!
This course is delivered entirely face-to-face over 1 day.
And we make that day count.
Expect plenty of practical training, CPR, AED practice, first aid scenarios and opportunities to actually practise the skills you may one day need to use.
Our trainers focus on helping learners understand why they are doing something, not simply teaching them a sequence to remember for an assessment.
Blended Learning
Blended learning has 2 parts:
Part 1: Online
You are in control because this part of the course is self-directed and is expected that it will take 2 hours to complete in total. You can complete the modules at your own pace in your own environment providing you with the flexibility you need. The online training must be completed within 6 weeks of the course start and 1 day before you attend the face-to-face training.
You must complete the online section of this course before attending the face to face part.
Part 2: Face-to-face (at your venue)
You are spending 4 Hours in the classroom where you will be in a group with your fellow blended course mates. The day will be led by a specialist trainer.

Assessment and Certification
Assessment
Learners are assessed throughout the course using practical assessments and a multiple-choice theory assessment.
Our focus isn’t simply on getting learners through an assessment. We want learners to leave feeling confident that they could actually use the skills they have learned in a real emergency.
Certification
Successful learners receive the Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF).
This is an Ofqual-regulated qualification and the certificate is valid for three years.
The HSE strongly recommends that workplace first aiders undertake annual refresher training during the three-year certification period to help maintain their skills and keep their knowledge up to date.

How long is the Emergency First Aid at Work course?
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is delivered over one day, combining practical training, demonstrations, scenarios and guided learning.
Is Emergency First Aid at Work an accredited qualification?
Yes. Successful learners receive the Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF), an Ofqual-regulated qualification recognised for workplace first aid purposes.
How long does an EFAW certificate last?
The qualification is valid for three years. Before the certificate expires, learners will need to complete EFAW training again to maintain their qualification. The HSE also strongly recommends annual refresher training during the three-year certification period.
What’s the difference between Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work?
Emergency First Aid at Work is a 1-day course covering the essential skills required to respond to common workplace first aid emergencies. First Aid at Work is a more comprehensive 3-day qualification that includes the EFAW content alongside training for a wider range of workplace injuries and illnesses. The appropriate qualification should be determined through your workplace first aid needs assessment.
Is the course practical?
Very! Learners practise CPR, AED use, recovery position, choking treatment, bleeding control and other first aid skills using dedicated training equipment. We believe first aid is something you learn by doing, not just watching.
Do I need any previous first aid experience?
No previous first aid training is required. The course is designed to take learners through the skills step-by-step and give them plenty of opportunity to practise before being assessed.
Does Emergency First Aid at Work cover first aid for children?
EFAW is primarily a workplace adult first aid qualification and should not be used as a replacement for a Paediatric First Aid qualification where paediatric training is required. If you work with babies or children, take a look at our Emergency Paediatric First Aid or Paediatric First Aid courses. We can also provide combined adult and paediatric first aid training where both qualifications are required.
Do you deliver Emergency First Aid at Work at our workplace?
Yes. We specialise in on-site group training, bringing the trainer and equipment directly to your workplace. This reduces staff travel, can minimise disruption to your organisation and allows our trainer to discuss emergencies and risks relevant to your actual working environment.
How many learners can attend?
A standard course can accommodate up to 12 learners per trainer. If you need to train more than 12 people, that’s absolutely fine — we can arrange additional trainers, multiple courses or a planned training programme for larger organisations.
