Practical Level 3 Paediatric First Aid training for those responsible for the care of babies and children, including nurseries, early years settings, childminders, schools and childcare professionals.
Our PFA course provides the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to respond to a wide range of illnesses, injuries and emergencies involving infants and children.
The full course meets the paediatric first aid training requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and can be completed either over 2 days face-to-face or through blended learning.
Course Description
The Level 3 Paediatric First Aid course is designed for people who have responsibility for the care of babies and children and need comprehensive training in paediatric first aid.
The course covers both emergency life-saving skills and the wider range of illnesses and injuries that may be encountered when caring for children.
Learners develop practical skills through demonstrations, hands-on practice and realistic scenarios using infant and child CPR manikins and dedicated first aid training equipment.
The full Paediatric First Aid course is particularly suitable for nurseries, childminders, pre-schools and other early years settings that need to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
It is also suitable for schools, childcare professionals, sports and activity providers, nannies and others with responsibility for babies and children.
Candidates need a suitable level of English to understand the course content and complete the required assessments. Reasonable adjustments may be available where appropriate, so please contact us before the course if you would like to discuss any individual learning requirements.

Face-to-face Learning — Our Fave!
The full Paediatric First Aid course can be delivered entirely face-to-face over 2 days, providing a minimum of 12 hours of training excluding breaks.
Learners spend plenty of time practising CPR, recovery position, choking treatment, bleeding control and the management of common childhood illnesses and injuries.
The course is practical, interactive and designed to build real confidence rather than simply prepare learners for an assessment.
Blended Learning
Need more flexibility?
Our blended learning option combines approximately 6 hours of online learning with 1 full day of face-to-face practical training and assessment.
Part 1: Online Learning
Learners complete the online element before attending the classroom session.
This covers underpinning knowledge and allows learners to work through some of the theory at their own pace.
Part 2: Face-to-face Training
Learners then attend a full practical training day at your venue.
The classroom element focuses on the emergency paediatric first aid content, practical skills, scenarios and assessments that must be completed face-to-face.
Blended learning can be particularly useful for nurseries and childcare organisations trying to reduce the amount of time staff spend away from their normal duties.

Assessment and Certification
Assessment
Learners are assessed throughout the course using practical assessments and theory assessments.
Practical skills include areas such as infant and child CPR, management of an unresponsive casualty, choking and other essential paediatric first aid procedures.
Our trainers provide plenty of opportunities to practise throughout the course before learners are assessed.
The objective is not simply to gain the qualification — we want learners to leave feeling confident enough to respond effectively if a child in their care becomes seriously ill or injured.
Certification
Successful learners receive a nationally recognised, Ofqual-regulated Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF).
The qualification is valid for three years.
Paediatric first aid training should be renewed every three years to maintain appropriate certification.
Early years providers should also consider whether additional refresher training would help staff maintain their practical first aid skills during the certification period.

For early years settings, at least one person with the full Paediatric First Aid certificate must be available whenever children are present and accompany children on outings.
Can Paediatric First Aid be completed through blended learning?
Yes. The blended option combines online learning with a full day of face-to-face practical training. The emergency practical elements are completed face-to-face, while the online section allows learners to complete some of the underpinning knowledge before attending the classroom session.
How long is a Paediatric First Aid certificate valid for?
The qualification is valid for three years. Learners must complete appropriate Paediatric First Aid training again before their qualification expires if they need to maintain certification.
