Course Description
Schools’ First Aid is a practical one-day course created for staff who may need to respond when a pupil, colleague or visitor becomes ill or injured at school.
Training focuses on realistic school-based scenarios and common concerns including asthma, allergic reactions, seizures, head injuries, bleeding, choking and an unresponsive casualty.
Learners practise the actions they may need to take while also developing confidence in communication, escalation and handing over to the emergency services.
Candidates need a suitable level of English to understand the course content and take part in the activities and assessments. We can often provide additional support where English is not a learner’s first language, and reasonable adjustments may be available where appropriate. What are the different learning methods for this course?
Face-to-face Learning — Our Fave!
This course is delivered entirely face-to-face over 1 day, normally at your school or organisation.
The training is practical and scenario-led, with opportunities to practise CPR, choking response, casualty assessment and management of common school emergencies.
Content can be discussed around your setting, age groups and existing emergency procedures so that learners can relate the skills to their real working environment.
Our trainers focus on helping people understand what to do, why it matters and when to call for further help.
A Complement to Your First Aid Provision
Schools’ First Aid is additional school-focused training. It does not replace a regulated First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work or Paediatric First Aid qualification where one of those is required.
Schools should use their first aid needs assessment to determine the qualifications, numbers of first aiders and additional training appropriate to their employees, pupils, activities and premises.

Assessment and Certification
Assessment
Learners are assessed through continuous observation, practical activities and school-based scenarios. The emphasis is on safe decision-making, confident practical performance and understanding when to escalate for additional help.
Certification
Successful learners receive a Frontline Training Certificate of Attendance, valid for three years. This is a school-focused awareness and practical skills course; it is not a regulated FAW, EFAW or Paediatric First Aid qualification.

How long is the Schools’ First Aid course?
Schools’ First Aid is delivered over one face-to-face training day.
Is Schools’ First Aid a regulated qualification?
No. Successful learners receive a Frontline Training Certificate of Attendance. If your needs assessment identifies a regulated qualification, we also deliver EFAW, FAW, Emergency Paediatric First Aid and full Paediatric First Aid.
Does the course replace EFAW, FAW or Paediatric First Aid?
No. It is additional school-focused training and should complement the regulated qualifications and arrangements identified through your first aid needs assessment.
Can the content be tailored to our school?
Yes. We can discuss the age groups, activities, common concerns and procedures relevant to your setting while retaining the essential course content.
Is the course practical?
Very. Learners take part in demonstrations, hands-on practice and realistic scenarios using dedicated training equipment.
Does it include first aid for both adults and children?
Yes. The course considers emergencies involving school-age children as well as adult staff and visitors. It is not a replacement for full Paediatric First Aid where that qualification is required.
Does it cover allergy and anaphylaxis?

Can you deliver the course at our school?
Yes. We specialise in on-site group training and bring the trainer and equipment directly to your setting.
