This combined course is designed for organisations where staff may need to respond to emergencies involving both adults and children, including schools, nurseries, sports clubs, activity providers and other mixed-age environments.
By combining overlapping content from both qualifications, learners can achieve two nationally recognised Level 3 qualifications in one extended face-to-face training day.
Course Description
The Combined Emergency First Aid at Work & Emergency Paediatric First Aid course brings together the essential content from:
- Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)
- Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)
into one streamlined programme.
Taken separately, the two qualifications would normally require two training days. By combining shared learning outcomes and removing duplicated content, learners can complete both within 1 extended classroom day.
The course develops practical skills for responding to life-threatening emergencies involving adults, children and infants, including CPR, AED use, choking, bleeding, seizures and managing an unresponsive casualty.
It is particularly useful for organisations where staff have responsibility for both adults and children and need emergency-level first aid training for both groups.
Important for Early Years Settings
Emergency Paediatric First Aid can be appropriate for eligible early years practitioners and can contribute towards meeting relevant EYFS staff ratio requirements.
However, Emergency Paediatric First Aid does not replace the requirement for your setting to have at least one person with a current full Paediatric First Aid certificate available whenever children are present and accompanying children on outings.

Face-to-face Learning — Our Fave!
This combined course is delivered entirely face-to-face over 1 extended training day.
The course is highly practical and includes hands-on training with adult, child and infant CPR manikins, AED training devices and realistic emergency scenarios.
Learners practise the differences between responding to adult and paediatric emergencies while also developing the shared skills required across both qualifications.
Because the Emergency Paediatric First Aid element must be completed face-to-face, this combined course is not offered through blended learning.
Emergency Paediatric First Aid or Full Paediatric First Aid?
Emergency Paediatric First Aid (1 Day)
Covers essential life-saving skills such as CPR, choking, seizures, serious bleeding and managing an unresponsive baby or child.
Full Paediatric First Aid (2 Days / Blended)
Covers the emergency content above, plus a much wider range of childhood illnesses, injuries and medical emergencies.
Important for EYFS settings
Emergency Paediatric First Aid can be appropriate for some early years staff, including eligible Level 2 and Level 3 practitioners.
However, your setting must still have at least one person with a current full Paediatric First Aid certificate available whenever children are present and accompanying children on outings.

Assessment and Certification
Assessment
Learners are assessed throughout the course using practical assessments and theory assessments covering both qualifications.
Practical assessment includes essential skills such as adult, child and infant CPR, AED use, choking, bleeding control and managing an unresponsive casualty.
Our trainers provide plenty of opportunities to practise before assessment, with coaching and feedback throughout the day.
The goal isn’t simply to achieve two certificates — we want learners to leave confident enough to respond effectively whether the casualty is an adult, child or infant.
Certification
Successful learners receive two nationally recognised, Ofqual-regulated Level 3 qualifications:
Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)
Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)
Both qualifications are valid for three years.
Learners who need to maintain either qualification must complete the appropriate renewal training before their certificate expires.

However, your setting must still have at least one person with a current full Paediatric First Aid certificate available whenever children are present and accompanying children on outings. If the learner will provide that full level of cover, choose our full Paediatric First Aid qualification instead.
What’s the difference between this and the Combined FAW & Paediatric First Aid course?
This course combines Emergency First Aid at Work and Emergency Paediatric First Aid and is completed in 1 extended day. Our Combined First Aid at Work & Paediatric First Aid course is much more comprehensive. It includes the full 3-day First Aid at Work syllabus and the full Paediatric First Aid qualification and is delivered over 3 extended days. Which option is appropriate depends on your workplace first aid needs assessment and the level of paediatric first aid provision your organisation requires.
Can this course be completed through blended learning?
No. Because the Emergency Paediatric First Aid element must be undertaken face-to-face, the combined course is delivered entirely in the classroom.
