How to Identify and Respond to a Stroke in the Workplace
A stroke needs urgent medical attention. Recognising the signs quickly and calling 999 can help the person receive treatment sooner. Use the FAST check if you think someone may be having a stroke.
Remember FAST
- Face: has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile?
- Arms: can they raise both arms and keep them there?
- Speech: is their speech slurred or confused?
- Time: call 999 immediately if you notice any of these signs.
What should you do?
Note the time the symptoms started or when the person was last known to be well. Call 999, keep the person comfortable and monitor them. Do not give them food or drink unless instructed by a healthcare professional.
